Greenlink Community Development Group

Greenlink Community Development GroupResidents have joined together to form the Greenlink Community Development Group. They are volunteers from the local area who dedicate their spare time to improving the Greenlink environment for the good of the whole community. Since the Group was constituted on 14th February 2006, they have made an incredible difference to the area. The Group spent their first winter helping to remove tonnes of fly-tipping from the woodland surrounding the Greenlink.

Partnership

By working in partnership with the Greenlink Project, the BTCV Green Gym project, Forestry Commission Scotland and North Lanarkshire Council, the Greenlink Community Development Group have helped to bring some of the wooded area of the Greenlink under management. Vandalised and damaged trees have been replaced with native broadleaves including cherry, rowan, oak and hazel.

In the Community

Over the last two years, the group has been involved in the "From Seed to Greenlink" project with 11 local schools; in addition, the Group work with the Greenlink team to host community events. The events focus on promoting health, fitness and the local environment. The Group is also involved in the development of the Greenlink Allotment Project.

Training

Training is a big part of the development of the group and has helped the group to move forward. Members have been trained in Risk Assessment, Health and Safety, Basic Food Hygiene, Wild Flower ID, Badger Tracking, Identifying British Breeding Birds, Child Protection, Promoting Volunteering in the Media, Woodland Management, First Aid, STEPS to Excellence and Health Walk Leader Training.

Fundraising

Over the past two years the group has been awarded grants from Awards for All, Strathclyde Police, B&Q and Central Scotland Forest Trust. The group are delighted that they are being recognised for adding value to the local community. These contributions allow the group to continue the work they are doing in the community for now, and into the future.
