At the request of the local community, the Greenlink is hoping to set up an allotment site just off Braidhurst Street on the Greenlink.
The aim of this project is to provide:
an area to grow fresh, local organic fruit and vegetables
a site where local residents, schools and community groups can share, learn and enjoy the experience of growing their own produce
a play area for children
a wildlife garden
Plans for an ideal site have been drawn up and include 39 individual plots, 9 plots for community groups and a community hut with a meeting room and space for a cup of tea. Funding opportunities are currently being investigated to finance the building of the site.
Good News
The fantastic news is that North Lanarkshire Council have now agreed to lease the land for the allotments.
The Allotment Committee
The Greenlink Allotment Group ( pictured above ) has now been elected. 9 enthusiastic and committed individuals have now joined together and are working hard towards the goal of obtaining funding for the project. Grant applications have now been submitted to the Big Lottery and the Scottish Governments' Climate Challenge Fund.
Interested?
If you are an individual or community group interested in registering for a plot, and you live, or are based in North Lanarkshire, please contact the Greenlink to find out what progress has been made on the project. The registration for plots is now full, but don't let that put you off as we are still taking names for a waiting list.
