Conservation sessions take place every Tuesday, from 10 am until 1 pm. This involves practical tasks such as tree planting, wild flower planting or clean - ups. Some times we work with other groups such as the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
The aims of these sessions are to provide an opportunity for exercise, increase the biodiversity of the woodland and deliver informal training and experience of woodland management.
Over the last two years we have removed damaged trees, cleared fire sites, planted hundreds of wild flowers and trees and removed fly - tipping.
A grant of was received from Transpennine express in 2008. As result 2000 blue bells bulbs, 1000 wood anenomae and 1000 wild garlic bulbs were planted on the Greenlink cycleway.
Due to the success of recruiting volunteers we are unable to take on any more volunteers for conservation at this present time. We are now operating a waiting list. However please still contact us. We still have opportunities for people to volunteer at health walks and on other aspects of the project. Also, the time spent on a waiting list can be quite short as people can move on from the Greenlink Project quite quickly. We still want to hear from you.
We provide personal safety equipment such as boots and waterproofs. You do not need to be super fit to take part, as tasks can be organised to suit different abilities. A hot drink and a snack are provided and it's a great opportunity to meet new people.
To volunteer for conservation work with the Greenlink, please contact us and we will arrange a short meeting to provide more details.
